Panic Attack Symptoms Can Be Scary

Panic attack symptoms have become an increasingly common phenomenon in recent years, and it seems unclear whether this due to an increase in the number of incidents, or simply that more incidents are being recognized. The likelihood is that it is a combination of both. Certainly, there is no doubt that illnesses of this type were belittled and disregarded until recently, so anyone suffering from them would not have been regarded as being genuinely ill. There is no doubt, though, that increased stress and pollution levels are at least aggravating more conditions, even if they are not causing them directly.

The problem is reinforced by the fact that people being exposed to the symptoms panic even more, and the whole issue becomes self reinforcing. It is when the symptoms are flaring up at their worst that the first significant choice needs to be made. Do you try to reduce the symptoms with drug treatments, or not? It is best to realize at the start that there is no drug which can cure panic attack syndrome, so if the condition is ongoing another form of treatment will need to be found.

Drug treatments have several significant disadvantages. Firstly, many of them are not effective at the start. You need to take them consistently for several weeks before you can hope to see any real benefit. This means they cannot be used as a way of cooping with one time events such as exams or weddings unless the treatment is started well in advance. There are always severe side effects, although these can affect people in different ways. Very few people are so affected that they cannot continue with their daily life, which cannot be said for the condition itself.

The most severe symptom of panic attack can be affected breathing, which leads us to two conclusions. Firstly, those that smoke are far more likely to be affected by panic attacks than those that don't, and this is backed up by statistical evidence. Strangely enough, relaxation exercises which are designed to help can often have the same effect, as anything which affects the breathing seems to connect with past incidents in the mind.

The use of drugs to treat panic symptoms is proven and effective, but there is no potential to cure the condition, only to manage it. If you want to try to rid yourself of the problem for good, you will need to find a treatment which works directly on the mind to reduce the emotional charges which are buried deep within. There are many therapies which claim to be able to do this, and even straight counseling can have an effect. If you can discharge the emotion from the memory, you can prevent further panic attack symptoms.
